But I can't imagine Steven Root in any role aside from this, let alone that of a 3-star general.

This!
Also Dodgeball.
And his was the only watchable character in the very awful "Just Friends".

Lately, it seems that hep pops up in every other drama series that I watch. True Blood, Californication, Louie, Justified, Boardwalk Empire, and now The Newsroom. What's next - Mad Men, or Game of Thrones?
Anyway, as much as I love Milton, I still think of him more as Jimmy James or Bill Dautrieve.

He was fan-effing-tactic on Justified (which is an amazing show to begin with).
But yes, Bill Dautrieve for the win! "Today my life enters phase two: the GOOD years!"

Newsradio, King of the Hill. Jimmy James is one of the best TV characters of all time.

Whenever I think of him, it's as Jimmy James.
"Jimmy has fancy plans. And pants to match."
